about

"...and from then on it became death" as Norm McDonald announces to get us started with the debut release from Mechanical Noose. Nick Murray's cobwebbed corner comes alive with the dirtiest funk and crudest sample hacking about, a perfect partner to the stark originality, obtuse edits and everything goes attitude of Fancy Lad Skatebaords, Nicks "other" outlet.

Sonic comparisons could be made to the Traag / Siobhan / DJ Bando axis holding down Detroits back alleys, Smersh's playful electronic scum and Bourbonese Qualks trash-bag blackened funk but there's a level of eccentricity new again to find in Mechanical Nooses missives.

From funeral march piano mangled into chin-up jit, heavy metal shredding dissapearing into ferric abandon. David Lynch samples locked and loaded into Playstation 2 DAWs or gleaming error message ambience. It's a truly bumping ride out over the A side before side B's true "God Head Mask" is unveiled. A hymn of tedium in the workplace, the conveyor belts turning duty free cigs and Eau de Toilette bottles to and from their destinations of dullness, sun tan and city breaks. Sisyphean and stupid, it's 36 minutes of BOS mechanical minimalism.

From reading this you can probably tell it's a hard album to describe. Most of what Nick Murray does is exactly that.
