about

The album's title "Linear A" is borrowed from the untranslated Minoan script of the same name. This is not necessarily a reference to Minoan culture, but as a way to describe a condition of near-decipherability. Linear A is "nearly decipherable" due to its similarity to related scripts like Linear B (which has been translated), but is different enough to escape translation. This notion of near-decipherability is the galvanizing conceit of the album--to create a music that features familiar elements (recordings of everyday objects, instrumental melodies, synthesizer tones, song structures, etc.) abstracted to the point of near understanding.
